The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, with over 11,000 students, from over 70 countries across the globe. UNIC is an independent, co-educational, equal opportunity institution of higher education, which offers a wide range of programmes to students from around the world. The University pursues excellence in education through research and high teaching standards. UNIC participates in this proposal through the InSSTER (Innovative Science Society Technology and Education Research) Center of the Department of Education. InSSTER has extensive research experience on issues related to integrated STEM education and interdisciplinarity, sustainability, environmental socio-scientific issues, teacher training and development of teacher training materials with an emphasis on primary, pre-primary and secondary school teachers. InSSTER is participating in multiple EU funded projects (Erasmus+ KA2, FP6, FP7, Horizon2020, WIDERA, Teacher Academy).
IASIS, established in 2005, is a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to social inclusion, mental health, and education. Accredited by the Ministry of Labour and various national registers, IASIS stands out for its extensive experience and impactful contributions over the past 18 years. The organization operates a range of facilities including boarding houses, day centers, and shelters that cater to individuals with mental health issues, the homeless, victims of violence, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied minors.
IASIS’s commitment to social betterment is evident in its impressive outreach, having supported over 380,000 beneficiaries since its inception. The organization is also recognized for its innovative initiatives like the Fabric Republic, a sustainable clothing management system. Furthermore, is actively involved in training and professional development, offering comprehensive programs that have benefitted over 7,500 professionals and students. Under the supervision of multiple Greek ministries and European entities, IASIS continues to foster equal opportunities and new perspectives for vulnerable groups through its dedicated services and projects.
C.I.P. Citizens In Power (CIP) is an independent non-profit, non-governmental organization. CIP constitutes one of the leading organizations in Cyprus in the field of global education, social innovation, entrepreneurship, STEM and sustainable growth. The mission of the organization is implementing cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary approaches, as a response to fundamental social, educational and environmental challenges and policy gaps, mainly by employing technology transfer and operationalizing the research findings.
The Directorate of Secondary Education of Pieria (DISEPI) is a regional authority and a connecting link between the central authority, the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and the secondary schools. Its mission is the administrative and centralized monitoring of Secondary Schools of Pieria in terms of curriculum implementation, staff appointment, management of funds and transformation of national priorities into concrete educational planning.
DISEPI supervises 41 public Secondary Schools (20 High Schools, 12 Senior High Schools, 4 Vocational Schools, 2 Schools for Pupils with Special Needs, 1 Laboratory Center, 1 Music School and 1 private School).
Seeking to open up new pathways for education staff and students, DISEPI has been participating in several European educational projects.
Perifereiako Gymnasio Akakiou is a secondary public school founded in 1980. The school hosts around 300 students
coming from the nearest rural regions. The school is located in a central rural area, bridging the gap between the city and the countryside. Therefore, students from various social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds are gathered, creating a mosaic school community. The school’s scope is in alignment with the national educational system’s regulations to offer comprehensive knowledge and prepare students for their academic and professional orientation.
